| 1987 Ridge Vineyards Zinfandel Jimsomare Santa Cruz Mountains, California WB Rating: 78 Alcohol by volume: 13.3% Price at time of purchase: $0.00 (Library wine) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel Of course it's completely unfair to judge a wine like this long after its prime, but age did not strike me as the major problem with this wine -- a remarkable feat in itself. Unfortunately, though, and in common with several other Jimsomare Zins I can remember from the olden days, this was not an especially pleasurable wine. In place of the lively fruit that makes Zins so delightful, there was a slightly green and Claret-like structure along with an elevated acid level (that could be due in part to its age). Hard to find the berry or plum Zin fruit buried in all the structure. Interesting but disappointing. - HK 2005-02-13 [Back] |
