| 1989 Ridge Vineyards Zinfandel Park Muscatine Howell Mountain, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 87 Alcohol by volume: 13.7% Price at time of purchase: $12.00 (Library wine) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): 85% Zzin, 15% Petite Syrah The 1989 Park Muscatine, tasted with the '88, is a considerably fuller and more giving wine. Still has some tannin and, like the '88, is not over the hill. But this one has more fruit than the '88 -- excellent spicy raspberries that followed through from beginning to end with a deep midrange. It's still somewhat Cabernet-like, but made it comforably onto the Zin calibration curve, though it's still less round and easygoing than the Sonoma Zins (which are, however, less long-lived). - HK 2000-11-02 [Back] |
