| 1993 Ridge Vineyards Carignan Sommer Ranch Alexander Valley, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 83 Alcohol by volume: 13.8% Price at time of purchase: $12.00 (Library wine) Type: Carignane Principal varietal(s): 100% Carignan A curiosity wine from the depths of the cellar. Undoubtedly past its prime but its balance has kept it an interesting wine. Herbal/vegetal (but not unpleasantly so) with some subtle cherry fruit and a definite component of leather, somewhat like an Italian Sangiovese. The color was dark purple edging toward amber, and there was something of a sherry-like mouth feel. Probably the last bottle of this in the known universe. - HK 2000-10-03 [Back] |
