| 2015 Rockpile Vineyards Zinfandel Rockpile Petroglyph Rockpile, Sonoma County, California WB Rating: 92 Alcohol by volume: 16.1% Price at time of purchase: $72.00 (from winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel I'm becoming convinced that Rockpile Zins are in some ways more similar to Sonoma Valley Zins than to the Dry Creek Zins just a thousand feet below them. They seem to have more elegance and less of a port-like feel compared to some of the monster Dry Creek Zins, despite being monsters themselves. The Petroglyph Zin does not come across as hot or port-like at all. Rather, it's full of deep cherry and blackberry fruit, a vanilla-like core of toasty oak, and a seamless mouth feel. Lush and long without broadcasting its alcohol level, no mean feat. This is simply a delicious, mouth-filling, satisfying, complete red wine.
