| 2001 Rosenblum Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard Sonoma Valley, California WB Rating: 89 Alcohol by volume: 15.2% Price at time of purchase: $38.00 (from winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): 96% Zinfandel, 4% other varietals including Alicante Bouchet and Carignane A burly, viscous, mouth-coating wine from a venerable vineyard also exploited by several other Zin-producing heavyweights including Ridge and Ravenswood. Extremely weighty in the mouth, with powerful cherry/kirsch, licorice, and vanilla components. Very enjoyable now if you like to be hit upside the head, and will undoubtedly improve as its power resolves itself. For now it struck us a bit topheavy despite all its qualitites, and it is unfortunately priced for the pre-Nasdaq-collapse crowd. Will be interesting to taste in another year or so, when it will probably move up a few points on the rating scale. - WB team 2003-02-25 [Back] |
