| 2007 Sculpterra Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles WB Rating: 86 Alcohol by volume: 16.3% Price at time of purchase: $30.00 (winery) Type: Cabernet / Bordeaux Principal varietal(s): Cabernet Sauvignon This wine is completely over the top as a Cabernet and honestly didn't really have a lot of Cabernet varietal character. But as a potent wine with big beef or barbecue dishes, it's dandy in the same sense a big Zinfandel would be. In fact, Zinfandel is what the wine tasted like, with dark berry fruit, a lot of toasty oak, and a liqueur-like density. Some heat and harshness in the finish, but that's where the big beef and barbecue come in. Fun wine, but as a Cabernet needs to get toned down a level or two. - HK 2013-04-19 [Back] |
