| 2005 Seghesio Petite Sirah Home Ranch Alexander Valley, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 87 Alcohol by volume: 14.9% Price at time of purchase: $38.00 (winery) Type: Petite Sirah Principal varietal(s): Petite Sirah Like most Seghesio Petite Sirahs, this wine was viciously tannic in its youth and I wondered if it would ever soften up. So I saved this bottle to try at the ripe old age of 9. And, in fact, the wine has softened up considerably and drinking it is no longer akin to drinking aqua regia. It is still very tannic, but certainly pleasant enough with food. Spicy aromas of black raspberry pie in the oven. Full and virile in the mouth, but also still a tad harsh - a characteristic that I don't ever think will disappear from this wine. Concentrated and uncompromising, but a step or two down from the Seghesio Zins on the pleasure scale. - HK 2014-02-02 [Back] |
