I think I slightly prefer this Zin to the Seghesio 2005 Westphall Vineyard-designate wine, also from the Rockpile AVA, though both are excellent. The Rockpile is a briary, masculine Zinfandel but with no hint of over-ripeness or raisin-like character. Great dark berry fruit density along with a touch of bitter chocolate, exotic spiciness, mouth-filling richness, and chewy texture. Ideal with barbecue or other strongly flavored meat dishes. - HK 2009-03-28
