| 2007 Seghesio Marian's Reserve Alexander Valley, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 87 Alcohol by volume: 15.5% Price at time of purchase: $42.00 (winery) Type: Zin blend Principal varietal(s): 34% Zinfandel, 33% Petite Sirah, 33% Carignane Big, silky, easy to drink red that frankly didn't strike me as positively as did the 2006. (In fact, in general I prefer the Seghesio Zins to the Marian's Reserve, and they're a bit less expensive.) That said, there's a nice density of fruit - dark berries, prunes, black cherries, licorice, and subtle spices. But the the nose is quite reticent and the mouthfeel soft and a bit generic. Seghesio sets an awfully high bar, and this is a good but not great example of Marian's Reserve. - HK 2013-04-11 [Back] |
