| 2009 Sterling Vineyards Platinum Napa Valley, California WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 14.9% Price at time of purchase: $32.00 (America's Wine Shop, NYC) Type: Cabernet / Bordeaux Principal varietal(s): 94% Cabernet, 3% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot Opaque purple wine that's clearly still in its infancy, though it's certainly smooth enough in the mouth and tasty even now. Good intensity, classic California Cabernet flavors of earthy dark currant and berry fruit, with some secondary notes of bitter chocolate, coffee, and smoke. Will obviously be even better with a few more years in the bottle to mellow and develop some complexity. Note: prices seem to vary widely with this wine, which is advertised for under $35 at several East Coast wine stores but is listed for $65 on the Sterling web site. - HK 2013-07-26 [Back] |
