| 2009 Super Sonoman Meritage Sonoma County, California WB Rating: 89 Alcohol by volume: 14.5% Price at time of purchase: $50.00 (Vinoteca, Santa Rosa) Type: Cabernet / Bordeaux Principal varietal(s): 83% Cabernet, 13% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot Slightly different grape makeup compared to the 2007, but a similar character. Full of dark berry and currant flavors complicated by earth, sweet oak and violets. Big wine but nicely in balance with a muscular texture yet fine tannins and a rounded feel in the mouth. Should be good for several more years, but drinking nicely right now at age 7. Aged in 100% new oak but the wine's fruit density keeps that easily in check. From high-altitude grapes mostly in Knight's Valley. - HK 2016-03-12 [Back] |
