| 1997 The Wiz Zinfandel Moniz Vineyard Morgan Hill, Santa Clara Valley, California WB Rating: 88 Alcohol by volume: 13.0% Price at time of purchase: $ (home-vinted) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel Tasted along with several other wines made by "The Wiz" (Dan White) and his partner (John Roesser), this is a strong statement for how good "home-made" wines can be if made with knowledge and care. This is an excellent Zin that stood up well (in fact tasted somewhat similar) to a Ridge '97 Pagani Ranch tasted along side it. Some tasters preferred it to the Ridge, considering it even richer. Strong praise! This had a youthful purple color and a forward, earthy nose with touches of vanilla and caramel.
