| 2014 Yellow Tail Shiraz South Eastern Australia WB Rating: 75 Alcohol by volume: 13.0% Price at time of purchase: $4.99 (Safeway) Type: Shiraz Principal varietal(s): Syrah Purchased for cooking since it was basically half-price at Safeway. I drink one of these (once a favorite of mine among inexpensive reds) once in a while to see how they're doing, and lately it's been a pretty dispiriting experience. The 2014 Yellow Tail Shiraz has a medicinal cherry/blueberry nose, a sweet, medicinal, non-varietal taste in the mouth, and a finish that is cloying and suggests roasted vegetables. Drinkable, but infinitely inferior to, for example, a good imported beer (or three) in the $5 price range. At $8.99 or whatever it retails at, don't even consider it. - HK 2015-09-18 [Back] |
