| 1998 Domaine Zind Humbrecht Pinot d'Alsace Alsace, France WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $10.00 (Premier Cru) Type: Pinot Blanc Principal varietal(s): Pinot Blanc Purchased on sale for $10 (about half price) from Premier Cru, this is the best $10 white I've ever had. Ho hum, but this is another impeccably pure, balanced, rich, flavorful, long white from Zind Humbrecht. Deep, spicy honeyed peaches, vanilla, and roasted cashews caress the nose; in the mouth the full flavors are framed beautifully with balancing acid. This is probably the least expensive of all the Zind-Humbrecht wines, but it tells something about the winemaker that this "throwaway" wine is so excellent. - HK 2002-09-30 [Back] |
