2006 Bella Zinfandel Lily Hill Estate Dry Creek, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 88 Alcohol by volume: 14.9% Price at time of purchase: $38.00 (Winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel Probably my favorite of the Bella '06's, though in common with the others, it's more of a muscular and tannic wine than a round or charming one. Very firm but with good ripeness. Complex nose and flavors of raspberries, bittersweet chocolate, currants, spicy oak, and charcoal, along with some earthy and floral notes. If served to me blind, I would have identified this wine as a Petite Sirah due to its flavor profile, dry tannins, and austerity. Still, a really good wine that, even at age 6, definitely requires some food with it. - HK 2012-02-14 [Back] |
