2001 Beresford Shiraz McLaren Vale McLaren Vale, Australia WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 14.0% Price at time of purchase: $20.00 (Whole Foods) Type: Shiraz Principal varietal(s): Syrah Promising opaque purple color. Chewy, palate-coating Shiraz with lots going on in the aromas -- cassis, super-dark berries, lead pencil, and a huge dose of sweet spicy oak. Rich flavors, good finish with a considerable amount of round tannins. A bit elevated on the acid scale, but that will mellow out. Not inexpensive, but certainly less painful than most of our favorite Zins, and every bit as tasty. - HK 2004-04-08 [Back] |
