This brick red St. Estephe has mellowed in its old age, and showed superbly in this tasting, as it did when first tasted five years earlier. While a bit more reserved now, its nose was classic and forward when first opened, and the flavors developed beautifully over an hour or so to reveal balanced cedar, tobacco, smoke, and cassis flavors in a seamless package. Very clean and flavorful with no hint of dustiness or age-induced imbalance. Rich and elegant wine that's retained its fruit and complexity. Another $12 bargain in its (and my) youth. - HK 2006-06-15
