Like the few other Camellia wines I've tried, this one is more structured and tannic than the typical fat, fruit-forward Zinfandel, and is definitely a candidate for a few more years of aging. It's one of the rare Zins that I think will actually improve and open significantly with a bit more age, though it's certainly tasting well now. Reticent nose opens with time to reveal classy deep berry and dark plum fruit and subtle spicy vanilla oak notes. Structured, claret-like mouth feel with some dusty tannins in the finish suggestive of the Petite Sirah in the blend. If this wine softens and becomes more generous over time, I will be guilty of having underestimated it. For now it's just a bit too stern for my pampered palate. - HK 2008-12-27
