1988 Carmenet Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma Valley, California WB Rating: 89 Alcohol by volume: 13.2% Price at time of purchase: $9.00 (Library wine) Type: Cabernet / Bordeaux Principal varietal(s): 85% Cabernet, 9% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot Exceedingly good Cabernet, considering 1988 was a poor year and Carmenet is not exactly Silver Oak when it comes to price. In fact the wine stores were practically giving this wine away at the time of its release! It's still a totally fresh, full-flavored, beautifully balanced wine. Deep color and classic Cabernet character with big, smoky, cassis and herb-infused cherry flavors and some tobacco in the excellent finish. Interestingly, we like this Cab better than some Carmenet's from better years. It breaks our heart that this is the last of these wines in the Winebork inventory. - WB Team 2000-08-13 [Back] |
