2015 Chateau St. Jean Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma County, California WB Rating: 86 Alcohol by volume: 13.8% Price at time of purchase: $8.99 (Olivers Market) Type: Sauvignon Blanc Principal varietal(s): Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Chardonnay blend This is a superb bargain in Sauvignon Blanc. I assume this bottling is considered inferior to the wine Chateau St. Jean usually labels Fumé Blanc and prices considerably higher, but I found it to be absolutely delicious. Excellent varietal character in its red grapefruit and tropical fruit flavors tinged with classic fresh grassy notes. Ripe and pure feeling in the mouth, not sweet or clumsy in any way, as might be expected in an inexpensive white like this. - HK 2017-02-24 [Back] |
