1995 Dehlinger Bordeaux Blend Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 92 Alcohol by volume: 14.5% Price at time of purchase: $28.00 (Limited availability) Type: Cabernet / Bordeaux Principal varietal(s): 70% Cabernet, 30% Merlot The Russsian River appelation is not well known for Cabernets, but this is one of the best Cabernets I've had in recent memory. Powerful wine with deep, complex nose and flavors. Inky purple, opaque, powerful, with 14.5% alcohol, but the alcohol is absolutely lost in the depth of flavor. Like a truly first-class Bordeaux -- it has that same combination of complexity, power and grace. Still very firm in structure, but with no unpleasant tannic edge. Has perfect balance and a long future ahead of it -- but it's delicious and totally drinkable now. This wine probably cost less than $30 when purchased; if I could get it for that price now I'd get two cases in a femtosecond. - HK 2000-06-12 [Back] |
