1999 Domaine Delarche Pernand Vergelesses les Boutieres Pernand Vergelesses, Burgundy, France WB Rating: 60 Alcohol by volume: 12.5% Price at time of purchase: $19.00 (North Berkeley Wine Imports) Type: Pinot Noir / Burgundy Principal varietal(s): Pinot Noir This wine has been tasted four times over the past two years (I made the cosmic error of purchasing a CASE of this wine based on previous good experiences with other vintages), and I'm no longer giving it the benefit of the doubt. It has gone from bad to worse. In past vintages, the Delarche Les Boutieres has been a reliable, soft, pure, uncomplicated, fruit-driven, fairly priced Cote de Beaune. But the '99, in each successive tasting, has been more and more dominated by an assertive and foul charred, funky, earthy/gamey quality. I once considered the wine vaguely drinkable, but poured the latest bottle down the sink. - HK 2004-04-07 [Back] |
