2005 Georges Duboeuf Morgon, Jean Descombes Morgon, Beaujolais, France WB Rating: 87 Alcohol by volume: 13.0% Price at time of purchase: $8.99 (K&L) Type: Beaujolais Principal varietal(s): Gamay Infinitely superior to the 2004 Jean Descombes Morgon, the 2005 is deeply colored and possesses a pure nose of deep black cherry and violets in profusion. In the mouth the cherries and flowers are augmented by a deep raspberry core and clean finish. Possibly a little leaner than the 2005 Duboeuf Chiroubles, but still a classy and flavorful wine. Would probably improve even further given another year or two in the bottle. Very well priced, both this wine and the Duboeuf Chiroubles have more depth and are more interesting and flavorful than just about any "inexpensive" Cote d'Or Burgundy costing 2 or 3 times as much. - HK 2007-10-19 [Back] |
