2008 Dutton-Goldfield Pinot Noir Devil's Gulch Vineyard Marin County, California WB Rating: 89 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $58.00 (from winery) Type: Pinot Noir / Burgundy Principal varietal(s): Pinot Noir The super-low-yielding Devil's Gulch Vineyard is near Nicasio and the frigid Pacific, in far-western Marin County. It seems to produce the most rustic and idiosyncratic Dutton-Goldfield Pinot Noir. The 2008 is full of tart wild berry, currant, and cranberry aromas and flavors, as well as potent earthy and spicy nuances. Not as rich, seamless, perfumed, and silky as the other Dutton-Goldfield Pinot's, but impeccably made, flavorful, and fun to drink. This vineyard definitely takes a few extra years to find its footing. In its youth, not as soft and perfumed as the other D-G Pinot's. - HK 2013-02-23 [Back] |
