I love the intensity of Pinot fruit that the D-G Freestone Hill always seems to deliver. The 2008, however, is something of an off-vintage for this great wine - a pale shadow of both the 2007 and 2009. Earthy, slightly musky, spicy cherry and raspberry fruit with a touch of charcoal and cola in the core. Considerably less expansive and seamless than the spectacular '07 and '09 vintages. It's a tasty and satisfying Pinot , but far from a bargain at its $58 price point. Also, I don't see this wine as an ager. - HK 2012-09-06
