| 2011 Dutton-Goldfield Riesling Chileno Valley Vineyard Marin County WB Rating: 88 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $30.00 (from winery) Type: Riesling Principal varietal(s): Riesling One of a number of D-G wines made from grapes originating in cool Marin County sites. Very nice, if muted, Riesling nose of pear, honey, apricot, and flowers. Very dry and crisp, almost austere at this point compared to, for example, most German Rieslings. As with the D-G Gewurztraminer, I think a smidge less alcohol and a smidge of residual sugar would have made these excellent wines a little less ascetic-feeling and even more appealing. Still, this is a beautifully made wine that's perfect during the summer. - HK 2012-08-01 [Back] |
