1998 Falesco Vitiano Umbria, Italy WB Rating: 85 Alcohol by volume: 12.5% Price at time of purchase: $10.00 (unknown) Type: Italian Red Principal varietal(s): 1/3 each Cabernet, Merlot, Sangiovese A highly ranked Parker best buy. Certainly an excellent buy, but to my taste a solid rather than spectacular wine. Perhaps needs a year or two, but at this point a little unyielding. Nice, though restrained, nose and flavors of red and black fruits with some leathery components. Good balance. Reminded me of a medium-priced Chianti in its flavors, mouth feel, and slightly bitter tannins. Good now with food, and probably better overall with a little age. (H.K.) - HK 2000-06-11 [Back] |
