As charming to drink as to let the words "Vernaccia di San Gimignano" roll off the tongue. The first adjectives that spring to mind are clean and refreshing. But there is a lot going on in this wine that one discovers while sipping through the bottle: flowers, peaches, gooseberries, and minerals in the nose; additional nuances of nectarine and mandarin orange in the flavors. Bone dry, but with enough flavor and balance to give an almost sweet flavor sensation. A perfect summertime wine, and because of the crisp acids, a very good food wine. - HK 2002-07-30 [Back] |
