1998 Finca Luzon Finca Luzon Jumilla (Spain) WB Rating: 86 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $7.00 () Type: Spanish red Principal varietal(s): 50% Monastrell, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet, 10% Tempranillo Tasted three times, with a similar experience each time. Initially the wine starts out rather chunky, more body than flavor (like some Carignanes). But after 30 minutes, whether because the wine opens or the taste buds recalibrate, the wine becomes much more multidimensional, with chocolate, cherry, and licorice notes that reminded us most of a good Merlot -- full bodied and satisfying. Still young and may actually improve with age, but already a superb buy if you can find it. - WB Team 2000-07-15 [Back] |
