Pouilly-Fuissé, Burgundy, France
WB Rating: 87

Price at time of purchase: $24.58 (North Berkeley Wines)
Principal varietal(s): Chardonnay
Good, crisp Pouilly-Fuisse, but in the context of the vintage and appellation and producer, something of a disappointment. I actually strongly preferred the "lesser" Macon-Vergisson from Eric Forest to this wine, which is more than double the price. The flavors here are dominated by leesy, toasty, yeasty elements, though there is some nice candied citrus in the background. The high acid makes the wine crisp, but the acid level is borderline high to my taste. Good food wine, just lacks the fruit depth to be rated higher, and at its price point there are a lot of better values. (Purchased in an excellent mixed-case holiday special at North Berkeley. Normal retail price would be even higher.) - HK 2009-08-24
