Like all the Freestone wines, there's a nice sense of life and freshness in the 2009 "Freestone" Pinot Noir. At this point the wine is delicious to drink but obviously still in an evolving state - lots of fruit and concentration, but not much complexity. Dark cherry and pomegranate fruit along with a nice touch of dried flowers and sweet spices. Seamless, rich mouth feel, good length. Still showing a bit of tannic tightness, especially if served without food. Delicious, but I'd definitely opt to hold this one at least another year or two to let the wine open out, as it surely will. As good as this wine is, I think it will rank a step or two behind the outstanding 2007. - HK 2012-06-29

[HK  2014-08-15] (Tasting of 8-14-2014.) This wine has softened and opened up magnificently in the past year or two. Mouth-coating, velvet texture with superb ripe Pinot fruit. I'm glad I still have a few of these in the cellar.  User Rating: 92.
