2010 Joseph Phelps / Freestone Vineyards Chardonnay "Freestone" Sonoma Coast, California WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $55.00 (Winery) Type: Chardonnay Principal varietal(s): Chardonnay A little lower density than the 2009, but still a beautifully balanced, full-flavored Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. Tasted at age four, several bottles of this wine had already developed an aged golden color, and I would not be inclined to age the 2010 any further. (In fact, the first bottle of this wine I tried was definitely over the hill.) Nicely layered flavors of butterscotch, citrus oil, subdued spiciness, and even some tropical notes I don't always find in cool-climate Sonoma Coast Chardonnays. Crisp, clean, but at age four leaning towards getting shorter in the mouth and more abrupt in the finish. - HK 2014-11-12 [Back] |
