A smidge more flavorful and full-bodied than the excellent 2011. Ripe peach fruit and sweet citrus oil surrounded by cream, roasted nut, and vanilla. Brisk, with lots of life and richness in the mouth and finish. Seems fatter and fruitier and a bit less mineral-inflected than the higher end Phelps Chardonnays. It's a pity, but this is the last year Phelps is going to produce this entry-level Chardonnay. From now on, their starting price for Chardonnay is at least $55. - HK 2014-04-12 [Back] |
