1997 Gallo of Sonoma Zinfandel Chiotti Vineyard
Dry Creek, Sonoma, California

WB Rating: 85

Alcohol by volume: 14.9%
Price at time of purchase: $15.00 (Current release)

Type: Zinfandel
Principal varietal(s): Not stated. Assumed 100% Zinfandel.

Slightly vegetal nose and flavors when first opened, but this dissipated after a time and the wine evolved into a good, typical Dry Creek Zin. Deep color, rustic and somewhat tough and alcoholic mouth feel. Not extremely forward, but a good center of dark berry fruit and some hints of tar and licorice. Not the most elegant or complex of Zins; to my taste not much better than the generic Gallo Sonoma Zin, which is $5 less expensive. (HK) - WB Team 2000-06-06
