2018 Goodfellow Family Cellars Pinot Noir House Block, Whistling Ridge Ribbon Ridge, Willamette Valley, Oregon WB Rating: 93 Alcohol by volume: 12.8% Price at time of purchase: $70.00 (Winery) Type: Pinot Noir / Burgundy Principal varietal(s): Pinot Noir This wine was made from old-vine Pommard clones in the first plantings at Whistling Ridge vineyard. The own-rooted vines came with Phylloxera, and the Whistling Ridge is a "mix of the survivors, the dying, and the new vines planted to fill the holes," per the label. But what a gorgeous wine it is, headlined by an intoxicatingly perfumed nose of red fruits and flowers. Light as air in the mouth, exceedingly refined and elegant, but with lovely flavors suggestive of blueberry and cherry fruit and subtle spices. Maybe not as authoritative in the mouth or long-lived as the Heritage Pinot from Goodfellow, but this wine is still wonderful. Only 110 cases were made. - HK 2023-05-22 [Back] |
