This was the last '83 Gruaud Larose in our inventory, a heartbreaking turn of events since this was the best this wine has ever showed. Extremely youthful bright purple color -- like a 3 year-old, not an 18-year-old! Totally fresh, powerful, forward cassis fruit with loads of mint, eucalyptus, and chocolate. Great finish, terrific wine. We've probably drunk more of this classified growth than any other single Bordeaux, and it is the passing of an era to drink the last one. - HK 2001-12-14
