2006 Hartford Zinfandel Fanucchi-Wood Road Vineyard Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 92 Alcohol by volume: 15.8% Price at time of purchase: $50.00 (Winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel If there's a doubt in your mind that top Zinfandels can stand with the world's best wines, you just need to try this one. (Of course at $50/bottle or more, it had better be good.). This wine has tremendous power and richness yet is beautifully balanced and in control. Deep, complex nose starts with raspberry compote, currants, chocolate, charcoal, spice, but over time a whole range of dark berries and savory spices floats through. In the mouth, there is some detectable heat from the alcohol when the wine is first opened, but this quickly disappears into the ocean of flavor. Despite its density, it doesn't come across as heavy or clumsy in the mouth, but rather regal and seamless. It actually goes very well with rich main courses. Spectacular Zinfandel. - HK 2010-08-07 [Back] |
