2006 Henrys Drive Vignerons Pillar Box Red Padthaway, Australia WB Rating: 89 Alcohol by volume: 15.0% Price at time of purchase: $8.99 (Costco) Type: Cabernet-Shiraz blend Principal varietal(s): 50% Shiraz, 42% Cabernet, 8% Merlot A good wine at any price, but stunningly good at $8.99. The 2006 strikes me as easily the best Pillar Box Red to date. Remarkable depth and complexity for a wine in this price range. Layers of ever-evolving flavors - dark currants, fragrant herbs, chocolate, sweet tobacco, charcoal, black pepper, roasted meat. Long and rich in the mouth with a classy tannic structure that indicates this wine will hold in there for a few years. One of the best red wine best buys going. - HK 2009-01-06 [Back] |
