1997 Kenwood Sonoma Zinfandel Sonoma Valley, California WB Rating: 84 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $12.00 (Widely avail.) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): 100% Zin? The generic Kenwood Zin. OK restaurant wine (where it was tasted at a cost of $22); probably available for $10-$12 retail. Rather tight when first opened, with clean red currant nose and a somewhat astringent mouth feel. After being opened for half an hour, the wine softened and deepened, with more richness and flavor, more like black raspberry. Medium bodied, not complex or mouth-coating, but a good straightforward Zin. It has some competition in the $12 range, though. - MJA 2000-07-13 [Back] |
