1998 La Rasina Rosso di Montalcino Montalcino, Italy WB Rating: 87 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $10.50 (North Berkeley Wine Imports) Type: Italian Red Principal varietal(s): Brunello clone of Sangiovese Warm-hearted wine that was a bargain on sale at $10.50. (It would be a lot less so at its normal retail price of $20+). This is a "second wine" to a Brunello di Montalcino, but it's richer and more approachable than most Brunellos would be at such an early age. Deep purple color, fairly expansive nose of dark berries and strawberries, round mouth feel, and clean finish. Not particularly layered or complex at this stage, but tasty and good with Italian food. - HK 2002-04-27 [Back] |
