2015 Roland Lavantureux Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir Chablis, Burgundy, France WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 13.0% Price at time of purchase: $58.00 (Kermit Lynch, Berkeley CA) Type: Chardonnay Principal varietal(s): Chardonnay It was infanticide to open this wine at so tender an age, even from a ripe vintage like 2015. No doubt this will be a noble wine, but at this point it is unevolved in terms of fruit expression. What non-mineral flavors I tasted leaned towards honeyed citrus, but I had to work pretty hard to get there. (Neil Martin's review in the WA from 2017 found it sweet on the entry, lush, tropical, and oaky - but none of that really came across to me in this tasting.) Exceedingly pure and rich feeling in the mouth, but called to mind a liqueur of mineral water. Extremely crisp and refreshing, but I wish I'd held on to this another couple of years. - HK 2019-04-29 [Back] |
