| 2011 Martinelli Zinfandel Giuseppe and Louisa Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 91 Alcohol by volume: 16.5% Price at time of purchase: $52.00 (from winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): I'm amazed, once again, at how Martinelli can make Zinfandels with this much alcohol that are still so elegant, seamless, and delicious. I don't think the 2011 Giuseppe and Louisa has quite the power level of the 2010, but it is equally full of flavor. Jammy - but not roasted or overripe - dark cherry with tangy cranberry/currant edge, touches of sweet spiciness. Caresses the mouth (hard to believe at 16%, but there it is) with rich flavors yet nothing out of balance. Probably my favorite 2011 Zin so far. - HK 2015-02-05 [Back] |
