2011 Martinelli Zinfandel Lolita Ranch Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 89 Alcohol by volume: 15.9% Price at time of purchase: $50.00 (from winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): These Jackass Hill neighbors (Lolita, Jackass, Vellutini) are all idiosyncratic wines, and you either love them or don't. I happen to love them, but they are definitely unique. Even in a cold year like 2011, the Lolita Ranch Zin is a powerhouse of liqueur-like density, displaying a complex, earthy mix of dark cherry, dried fig, roasting meat, vanilla, and sweet spice. Somewhat unusual mouth feel, like many Martinelli Zins - no real feel of tannic grip because of the liqueur texture - and therefore a little unformed. But remarkable range of deep flavors keeps it completely interesting to drink. - HK 2015-06-15 [Back] |
