I run hot and cold on Martinelli Zins. They are never anything other than interesting, hedonistic behemoths, and the question is whether they can handle the alcohol levels gracefully. In the case of the 2013 Vellutini, I found the alcohol a bit too obtrusive and the fruit level couldn't quite handle it. Still, a fascinating mouthful of flavors: cherry, cassis, prunes, licorice, figs, dried herbs. Hold onto your chair when you drink this one. - HK 2017-10-26
