1991 Mount Eden Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Santa Cruz Mountains, California WB Rating: 89 Alcohol by volume: 12.2% Price at time of purchase: $0.00 (Library wine) Type: Cabernet / Bordeaux Principal varietal(s): 96% Cabernet, 4% Merlot Previously tasted in December of 2001, when it stuck us as excellent but a bit high in acid. In this tasting that impression was gone. This is a rich but firm and tannic Cabernet that still has years of development ahead. Blackberry, currants, and cedar comprise its moderately complex nose and flavors. Rich mouth-feel and finish with slightly dusty tannins. This is the first non-Burgundian Mount Eden we've tried, and it is a serious, high-quality Santa Cruz Mountains Cab. It was $12 a bottle when purchased. Oh for the good old days! - HK 2004-03-27 [Back] |
