2001 Old World Winery Zinfandel Pena Creek Dry Creek, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 93 Alcohol by volume: 15.7% Price at time of purchase: $25.00 (Direct from winery (707)578-3148. Also try Premier Cru in Berkeley or California Wine Merchants in S.F.) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel We've had this wine at least a dozen times and loved it every time. A worthy successor to the delicious 2000 Pena Creek, this wine seems to get better every time it is tasted. It is a huge, expansive, layered, complex Zinfandel overflowing with flavor -- blackberry liqueur, blueberries, vanilla, spicy sweet oak. Excellent balance, great fruit-dominated finish. Without question my favorite OWW Zin to date (and one of my favorites from anybody) and it's in its virile, bone-rattling prime. - HK 2004-11-24 [Back] |
