2002 Old World Winery Pinot Noir Laughlin Vineyard Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 14.1% Price at time of purchase: $25.00 (from winery) Type: Pinot Noir / Burgundy Principal varietal(s): Pinot Noir Deep purple almost to the rim. More restrained and balanced in its alcohol level than the amazing (15.5%) 2001, the 2002 has youthful tart cherry, plums, orange peel, charcoal, rosebuds, and a complex melange of spices in the aromas, great persistence in the flavors, and a long finish. Seemed to gain weight in the glass as it rested, taking on notes of black coffee and black pepper. Our goal is to avoid drinking down our supply too quickly so we can watch this excellent wine develop. It struck us as perhaps the most age-worthy of the Laughlins thus far. - WB Exec Team 2005-05-16 [Back] |
