2003 Old World Winery Pinot Noir Laughlin Vineyard Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 89 Alcohol by volume: 15.3% Price at time of purchase: $25.00 (from winery) Type: Pinot Noir / Burgundy Principal varietal(s): Pinot Noir The Laughlin Pinot Noir from Old World Winery always seems to come across as more masculine and terroir-influenced than the more elegant and floral Windsor Gardens. This is another big Pinot Noir, similar in some ways to the 2001 Laughlin, though to my taste it has less of a hot feel than the 2001 despite its 15.3% alcohol level. Deep plum fruit, charcoal, and an attractive earthiness lend weight to this fine wine. Forward in both aromas and flavors, it is drinking well straight out of the gate.
