We've now had this great Pinot Noir five times, and its been a consistent winner. Broad-shouldered, deep purple in color, with layers of fruit, the steel fist lies just below the surface of this masculine, structured, and balanced wine which, despite its high alcohol content, has no hint of hotness. Earthy, meaty black fruit and dark cherry flavors highlighted by red rose petals. Tannins are round and completely submerged in this wine's concentration and depth. In the mouth a most impressive, seamless feel from start to finish, more so than for any of the other young Laughlins we've tried. Has some resemblance in power level to an excellent young Syrah, though the pure Pinot fruit is at the fore. This is an exciting wine for the future. We've always favored the 2001 Laughlin, but this one may be even better. - WB team 2007-09-01
