2005 Old World Winery Field Blend Block, Lone Redwood Ranch Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 91 Alcohol by volume: 15.3% Price at time of purchase: $25.00 (from winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Red blend We absolutely love wines like this. If this wine doesn't make you smile when you're drinking it, you're a hopeless grouch. A field blend from the Lone Redwood Ranch, the aromas from this lip-smacking red thunder from the glass - ripe bing cherry, blackberry, blueberry, raspberry. In the mouth, layers of fruit like a liqueur of the above-mentioned berries, and a seamless ripe feel from entry to tannin-loaded (but ripe) finish. The ripeness is such as to suggest sweetness in the finest sense of the word. I'm guessing this is Zinfandel-dominated, but the blueberry notes also remind us a bit of Syrah. Whatever the makeup, this is a delectable wine. - WB exec team 2008-01-25 [Back] |
